Scott Sigler added another 50% to his original EarthCore book and re-released it this month. I bought both the Kindle and Audible versions because I like to read or listen without interruption no matter what I'm doing and will switch back and forth. In fact, I became so obsessed with EarthCore, I couldn't put it down for 3 minutes to get a snack or drink and would have to switch to the audio so I wouldn't miss anything! And Sigler...! I spent 2 nights ago having nightmares ALL. NIGHT. LONG. What the...?!! Thanks a lot!
I had been looking for a copy of EarthCore for the past couple of years so I was thrilled when it was revamped and released again! And it's now one of my top favs of Sigler's books. Also, it terrified me in parts almost as much as Infected did! Dang!
A major corporation manages to be first to a massive find of a precious metal miles underground; deeper than any other mine in the world. What they discovered knocked my socks off!
My favorite characters were, hands down, Patrick and Bertha.
And I must mention the incredible Ray Porter who did the performance for the audiobook! I became so lost in his words while driving that I missed my turn off. ...Twice!
I could easily see this book turned into a movie! It's action packed with lots of incredible tech. Hope you're not too squeamish though!

I hate this trendy hipster word but I'm gonna use it anyway - EPIC, this story is epic. The characters, the mystery, the premise, the writing....all top notch. Parts of this story reminded me of The Descent. To be completely honest The Descent is much better though. Still, a real page turner, this one. I highly recommend this book.
After some necessary setup at the beginning, this turns into a fast-paced action story, slowly revealing the awesome premise.
Several characters develop in a believable way through the plot. There is one notable exception a character who won't develop in spite of all the 'lessons' he keeps getting.
Scott Sigler has throughly researched this book, producing a compelling, believable story.
I had a difficult time putting this book down! The answer to the mystery seemed a little far fetched, but Scott Sigler made it so convincing. I'm a geologist and this is the first book with geology in it that I could stomach. He did his reseatch. Bravo, can't wait for a sequel.
Not only that I'm a Junkie, but have always been a fan of your work. This rework is excellent. I never read the initial incarnation, but found and had started the audio version several years ago. I stopped after the first chapter because I felt kind of dirty. lol Anyway, small spoiler, I loved the part of the sparkly unicorns! ;)
I have read all most of Sigler's work and I love the majority of it. I do not care for the YA series he is currently working through (2 books are published) so I was anxious to read this earlier book in its expanded edition. At first I fell right into the book and it hit on the pacing and style that drew me in when first discovering him in the excellent "Infected." That book is perfect! Sadly, after winding my way through the many characters and the extensive plot set-up, I started to grow tired of the story. This may be due to the expanding of the original novel but I have not read that one so I can't completely attribute the flaw to that. But the book becomes tedious and by the final quarter of the book I just wanted it to be over. I finished it but the ending wasn't that satisfactory and did not leave me wanting more from the story or characters despite the author's ability to do just that if he desired. So, in the end, I cannot recommend this for fans or those wanting to try out Scott's work. If you are new to this author, there are many books that I believe you will enjoy much, much more than this one.
I'm a long time Sigler fan, but I'll be the first to admit I was not a huge fan of the /original/ EarthCore story. I decided to give this updated version a try because I have loved literally everything else Sigler has wrote - and I'm so glad I did!
I found the original story hard to get into and a little hard to follow, as I felt the story was too bogged down in trying to explain things rather than just letting the story flow. This is not at all a problem for the new version! There's a perfect blend of science, business, action, violence, characterization, and emotion. As always, there's characters that range from wussy to adventurous to selfish to selfless to relatable to hateable. You'll find characters to root for and characters to fear and characters that evoke a weird mixture of these reactions. Read this story and you'll enjoy a science-based horror story that incorporates unique aliens and plenty of adventure.
This was a wonderful update and a true Sigler story. Anybody interested in sci-fi, horror, aliens, mining, or just a plain ol' great read should give EarthCore a shot!
I had never read Scott Sigler until Earthcore (which, from its description, pushed all my “right” buttons). I’m definitely going to read more after this one. Make no mistake; the dialog makes this an “R” rated book. However, after the first chapter, my reaction was wow; I was hooked and felt that wow throughout until the ending. The plot is intricate, the storytelling is fast paced and crisp but easily flowing without being rushed. Initially, there are divergent storylines and characters rushing towards a common connection. The character development is spot on and you both love/hate them simultaneously. The action is credible, anxious and pulse pounding. We’re all afraid of the deep dark and Earthcore capitalizes on that by creating constant anxiety and leaves you knowing that something murderous is lurking just beyond the light in that deep darkness. You are kept guessing until the very end; who will lead, who will falter, who will survive and who will fall in the dark. Awesome read!!!
