I love finding a new series to get into, and I especially love finding a new author I love! It opens up a whole new world of reading pleasure, and this book delivered 100%. Engaging characters, good character development, fast-pace plot movement, obvious knowledge of subject matter, clear emotional expression, and (very important to me) excellent use of words, grammar, punctuation, and thought-flow. It is so off-putting when you read a Kindle book that is full of errors (typos, missing words, mis-used words, etc) and it was very refreshing to read happily without having to worry about those "speed bumps" getting in the way. I am starting on Book 2 in the Otter Creek series now, and it is living up to its predecessor already. I highly recommend this book, this series, and this author!Tags : Witness (Otter Creek Book 1) - Kindle edition by Rebecca Deel. Witness Otter Creek Book 1 edition by Rebecca Deel Romance eBooks Reviews
The characters are very likeable and easy to grab your interest and heart. I had to give the review four stars because I felt the book lagged in a couple of spots. I figured out the main villain quite early in the story but the adventure was still enjoyable.
I very much enjoyed the book and am continuing through the series. I am amused by the constant references to having a Coke. lol. I knew the author as a child and young woman. I am impressed by her gift. I enjoy the characters and find myself liking them and caring about their lives. Good job, Becky.
J Well, so far it's pretty boring and full of small town drama. There's a little suspense but slow. I have enjoyed others in the series, and it's a good thing I didn't read this one first. I am about a third of the way through and hoping it picks up soon.
Last week, I had no books in my very large library and now I have every book Rebecca Deel has written in both Otter Creek and Fortress Security. I think the toughest thing about writing this review is determining which of the books I liked better. I even gifted a few copies of this one.
This was a great murder mystery- the story keeps you guessing and has a fantastic romance as well! I really liked our hero in the story, and hope to see more of Ethan Blackhawk in other books! Already I'm ready to start the next book in the series!
I read hundreds of fiction novels a year. Rebecca Deel remains my favorite author for sure and, believe me, I have many choices. I absolutely adore the characters and how they carry through the Otter Creek and then the Fortress series. I recommend starting here though any will stand alone. I just think you will enjoy the character development as the stories play out.
It so amuses me to think that a woman author with a PhD, who teaches business in a private college, can come up with these intensely suspenseful stories. You can definitely expect an adrenaline rush.
This was a most enjoyable start to the series. I have now read the first five of the Otter Creek books and the first two were the very best.
I was utterly charmed by Rebecca Deel's characters, they are fun people I would love to meet. There was no sex, no bad language, no tattoos, no alcohol or harmful drugs promoted and it was refreshing to have such disciplined clean-cut characters. Where a minor character does drink to excess it was handled extremely well and I totally disagree with the reviewers who have criticised this aspect. The characters are very convincing and believable, even though the storyline follows through the romantic suspense conventions and has no bearing on real life. Ethan Blackhawk and the Cahill Family shine in this novel, as does the close-knit church community.
On the negative side there were spelling errors, punctuation and grammatical problems, which you don't see in the more expensive novels from large publishing houses. The first five books of Otter Creek could all benefit better editing, but it didn't really detract from the story.
Also there were way too many cokes, diet cokes, coffees, iced tea, hot chocolate, not to mention the cholesterol laden food - the reviewers who mentioned this aspect really did have a point - but in all honesty maybe I was just wishing I could consume that much sugar and not have tooth decay, obesity and all the associated unhealthy consequences of such a diet!
As you should be able to see, my nitpicking complaints are very minor because this is a great novel by a brilliant author, Christian readers rejoice and celebrate, because here are some books that you can share with your daughters.
