The Kingdom of Askara has been torn apart by conflict for centuries, where humans exist as subservient beings to their werewolf masters. Legend says it will only be able to heal itself when an Alpha King and a pure omega are mated and crowned together, but a pure omega hasn't been born in over a thousand years. Luca is an Alpha-heir eagerly awaiting the choosing ceremony on his 25th birthday and the gifts granted by whichever omega he mates. His small pack is destitute due to the decisions of its ruling council, but being only an Alpha-heir, he has no authority to challenge them. Not until now - this moment he has waited a long time for. Kit grew up as a street-rat, an unlicensed human who would never be more than a slave for whichever master owns him. Then one day he came across a young Alpha-heir, attacked and dying of poison, and found out their fates were suddenly entwined. Luca needs to take over his pack and save his people. He cannot afford to be distracted. But when he meets Kit, he develops abilities indicating he is not just a pack Alpha, but the King his world has needed for a thousand years. Is Kit really the cause of Luca's newfound power, the true mate he needs? How is it possible when the young man isn't even a werewolf, and as merely a human, a mating is not only forbidden, but for Kit, a sentence of death?

Wow... There is a lot happening in these 215 pages.I was excited to get my hands on this one 'cause I am a sucker for an mpreg story. I also really enjoy shifter books. And this one did not disappoint.
I'm pretty sure this is my first Victoria Sue book and I'm also pretty sure it won't be my last. I was impressed with the world she built in this story and also with all the characters she developed. They all played important roles in every scene they were in. Not once did I find myself getting bored with the story. It's action packed with some sweet romance.
I didn't care for the misunderstandings that led to the angst. I also felt the ending was rushed.
I'm hoping for an Sam and Asher book. I really want to read about these two getting together.

The Alpha King (Audible Audio Edition) Victoria Sue Joel Leslie Books Reviews
Excellent world building and werewolf lore. I liked both main characters. There was action and romance, fated mates and mpreg. I’m very much looking forward to the other books in this series.
I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the world that was created. Luca and his omega meet when they were younger. Years later they meet again and is ready to start their relationship. I really hope there's a book 2!
I stopped reading it literally at the midway point. I can not make that jump of, they had a miscommunication and then the world fell apart. I just can't. I wish this author well, but that was such a trope and it was done so much like a sledge hammer to the face. Apparently no one in the story and stand still and say, "HEY, I've got the information you need. Listen to me."
Because the drama hinges entirely on the main characters having a misunderstanding. It has promise, maybe I am harsh, but I did put it down and I will not pick it back up again.
I took a chance on a paranormal m/m story and I'm glad I did. The story kept me up late at night hoping it would turn out right. I'm very pleased with this writer and look forward to another by her.
The Alpha King is set in a dystopian reality in which shifters have risen up to rule the land and humans are subservient and owned by the different shifter regions. Set in what used to be the world as we know it, far in the future, the lands have been renamed and it is a different world. Each region has its own pack structure with leading families, the Alpha, betas, gammas, deltas, and omegas. What is missing and has been missing for sometime is an Alpha King and his Verum Omega. It has become the thought that such people never really existed, the scholars have since lost the records, and overtime the Alpha King and the Verum Omega have been thought as a myth meant to keep the packs in allegiance. So, imagine the upheaval when at the yearly mating rituals for all of age Alpha's, one Alpha-heir -Luca, starts presenting with traits beyond what is normal, he starts becoming the king. But how? He has no Omega. That is until he realizes that his powers strengthen and manifest when he is in the presense of a pitiful, scrawny, human slave - named Kit. He is drawn to Kit. Even though he knows as Alpha-heir he must mate with an Omega who can produce an heir, he can't control himself around Kit.
I loved reading this story. It had such amazing world-building and character definition. I loved watching Luca and Kit fall in love, and watch Kit transform from unwanted human slave to the Alpha King's mate and Verum Omega. Victoria Sue did a wonderful job not only doing a twist on the star-crossed lovers trope, but in creating a world that enamours the reader. I didn't want the story to end and my only problem with the story was it just felt to rushed in parts, not enough details to the little things that I like as a reader. This is a personal preference and may not even annoy other readers. I would have liked to see more love between the two, at times Kit wasn't even sure he was wanted, and that bothered me. In shifter stories, especially wolves, I like the mates to have a lot of passion and love.
Overall, 4.5 Stars and I am eager to see if there will be a book 2!
I would have given this 5 stars if it wasn't for the miscommunication trope... I hated that part of the book... It was so stupid...other than that part excellent story .... The world building was great and the author created a world I definitely want to read more about... I hope we get to see more from these characters...ALL OF THEM!! I want to see how Luca and Kit's rule goes.... Would definitely recommend...and keeping my fingers crossed for a book 2☺
I hate stories with deliberately forced plot-lies. This one has the contrived plot line of two "lovers" madly in love with each other, wolf and human, forcing them to keep on misunderstanding each other. I can totally understand lovers misunderstanding each other, but this one is totally manufactured and not a logical consequence of their misunderstood relationship, But one of happenstance over and over and over again. It was difficult to finish the book because of it.
But the story was well enough written and different enough from the usual proliferation of werewolf stories that I persevered.
